Even though we love them to bits, it’s not always easy living with a fearful dog. You may have put in place a whole series of routines and adjustments to make life a little easier for your dog to cope with. And we do that because we want them to live the fullest life they possibly can.
If I asked you to place your dog’s fear on a scale of 1 to 10, where would it be?
Then how much better might your dog’s quality of life be if that fear dropped from say, an 8 down to a 6?
Can all dogs become completely fear-free? No, I don’t think that’s realistic for a whole number of reasons. But what I do know is that when the fear drops from an 8 to a 6 or even further, it can make a significant difference to your dog’s quality of life.
There’s a wide range of behavioural techniques and approaches which can make a real difference to how a fearful dog experiences the world. But it can be challenging to know which one is the right one for your dog.
